How many different methods or approaches are needed to begin to connect with a specific group of people? Obviously, that would be a question that would be almost impossible to answer because of the differences in people.
College students are a group that requires several different approaches in reaching them for Christ and involving them in the living of their faith. One approach that has proven effective over many years is Baptist Student Ministry (BSM). We are blessed to have BSM on both the campuses of UNT and TWU. James Quesenberry and Mika Sumpter are the respective directors of these two campus ministries.
Bible studies, worship experiences, conferences, fellowship, and various service projects are all part of the work of BSM. One of the most familiar areas of the BSM approach is the Wednesday |
lunch that is furnished by a local church and served free to the students at the Baptist Student Center on each campus.
One of the lesser known areas of BSM is the direct involvement of students in mission work. This past Spring Break both of our BSMs were involved in mission work. The UNT BSM went to Mexico while the TWU BSM traveled to our nation’s other border neighbor and served in Vancouver, Canada.
In this edition of Connections, we want you to become better acquainted with Baptist Student Ministry through their mission trips of 2008. Between the work of churches and BSM, we can make an impact on reaching college students today. |
