Church Planting

Are you ready to consider Church Planting?

The 21st Century has become the time of church planting both in the United States and worldwide.  The popularity of starting new churches has resulted in many individuals having expressed an interest in church planting while others have definitely experienced God’s calling.  To help you assess where you are in the process, consider carefully your responses to the following questions:

1. At this point do you have a calling of God to church planting or are you exploring an initial interest?

2. Is your immediate family (spouse and children) fully supportive and committed to pursuing an opportunity in church planting?

3. Have you talked to current church planters about the reality of stress that accompanies the process of church planting?

4. Can you personally raise 50-100% of the funds that will be needed during the first year of a new start?

5. What is the smallest amount of financial resources that will be needed for your family’s personal support during the first year?

6. Do you have skills that are employable that would enable you to be bivocational for a period of time as the plant begins?

7. Have you gone through a formal assessment for church planters?  If so, what were the results?

8. Where do you sense God might be leading you geographically to plant a church?  Is that location based on personal convenience (near family or current location) or does it challenge your comfort level?

9. Why do you want to plant a church?

If after answering these questions you still believe you are called to be a church planter and you have an interest in the North Texas area, then check out Steps to Planting below.

Steps to Planting

There are multiple ways to plant a church and many types and styles of churches to plant.  The Steps to Planting power point presentation is a simplified look at the process used most often in Denton Baptist Association.  We are not locked into a process, but we have found that some form of regularity and familiarity can heighten the potential for success in the church planting process. Denton Baptist Association believes that church planting is one of our key strategies in reaching the greater Denton County area of North Texas.  Our association was started in 1886.  Today, we have almost 90 churches in our association.  Over sixty-five percent of those have been planted since 1975.  Truthfully, many other plants were started but failed.  The number one reason for a church plant failure has been theineffective leadership of the church planter.  The number one reason for a church plant success has been the effective leadership of the church planter.

Church planting is not for everyone, but it may be for you.  If you are ready to take the next step, contact Gary Loudermilk or call 940-498-5200 to set an appoinement for you and your spouse.
